The
Goal

As new galleries in the museum’s modern addition, the installations were planned to be fresh and charismatic, attracting attention and visitors to the revitalized museum.

The
Design

Reich&Petch designed three permanent galleries, each with their own unique character.

The Burlington Gallery features the life of Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea), and the role he played both locally and nationally. The displays explore 500 years of early history, settlement and development of the Burlington area. This object rich gallery draws attention to Burlington’s early history as a farming community with graphics reflecting the patchwork pattern of farm fields.

The Costume Gallery, is a popping, high energy space to reflect the story of The Brant Inn, the ‘it’ spot in

’40s, ’50s and ’60s Burlington. The walls feature newsworthy headline celebrity musicians of the time, and a large feature runway with the best outfits for a night out in the town. The runway and adjacent cases were designed to be easily updated to encourage return visits to see new fashionable costumes that would rotate over time.

The Discovery Gallery is geared towards children ages 4-5 and designed to be a complete “hands-on” discovery area. Through tactile engagement, visitors learn the importance of community coming together to build a city like Burlington.

Donor
Recognition

Reich&Petch designed the donor recognition wall. The design takes its cues from the new museum addition’s feature ceiling composed of a series of wooden slats. Contributions are recognized with plaques mounted along the slats or on the adjacent monitor.
