A design build project with Holman Exhibits, provides a thematic look and feel for the Panda Passage theming, signage and interpretative elements. The fabrication methods of the exhibits met the project’s demanding sustainability goal of Petal Certification for the International Living Future Institute’s (ILFI) Living Building Challenge.

The Design
R&P was inspired by paint strokes and textures found in traditional Chinese art and used these in fun and approachable illustrations throughout the exhibit to reflect the panda’s rich history in Chinese culture. To support the Zoo’s sustainable initiatives, natural materials and inks used conform to the International Living Future Institute’s standards. Interactive elements in the exhibit provide an engaging way for visitors of all ages to learn about panda and forest conservation. Throughout the exhibit, playful and whimsical illustrations help to tell the story of this beautiful yet endangered species.
Home to visiting pandas, Er Shun and Da Mao, Panda Passage was the blockbuster highlight of the Calgary Zoo’s Panda Habitat.
