The
Goal

Deloitte Canada was looking for an inspiring and contemporary wayfinding system to navigate their new hotelling approach to staff workspace to be inaugurated at their new Montréal office, La Tour Deloitte. The system reflects the Deloitte brand, work holistically with the building interiors, and function in conjunction with a digital booking system to help staff book and navigate to their workstation.

The
Design

For the design, R&P wanted to highlight Deloitte’s corporate culture as a respectable leading corporate entity, but also as an innovative and enjoyable progressive working environment. To accomplish this, a visual language was developed where contemporary letterforms are peeled or folded back to reveal fun, bright patterns. This is applied to a number of wayfinding elements. The most noteworthy of which are the floor numbers. These super-scaled, prominent sculptural numerals were made from brake-formed aluminum and folded open to reveal the pattern. The dimensionality of these pieces pushes the boundaries between art and

wayfinding design because they integrate with the interior architectural elements while act as beacons across the workspace. Bright green sculptural arrows incorporated into directional signage also echo this visual language. Simple, concise messaging, pictograms, tactile lettering and braille throughout help to break down the barriers of language, and cognitive abilities. Pictograms were each customized, representing different spaces from quiet zones to a unique treadmill icon for one of the most in-demand workstations.

The
Results

This signage program has become standard for all new Deloitte offices and has been rolled out to other facilities, including their Toronto office, which opened in 2015.
